  • Expression of Interest are invited for Local Trainers in the Field of Improving the Productive Livelihoods of Vulnerable Households. For Local Trainers on the Following Majors: - Field Crops / Horticulture - Plant Protection - Animal Production - Agricultural Economics and Marketing - Water, Land & Environment - Irrigation Networks - Medicine Veterinary The “Strengthening Resilience and Participation at Local Level in Yemen” (SRPL) programme aims to make contributions to enhancing the resilience of local institutions and vulnerable population groups. The target group is the vulnerable population in selected districts of the three governorates Ibb, Dhamar and Hadhramaut. Owing to the situation in Yemen, about 80 % of the Yemeni population is assessed as vulnerable. Of these, the most severely affected are children, young people, women, single heads of households, persons with disabilities, former war combatants, former child soldiers and the Al-Muhamasheen ethnic minority. As a Transitional Development Assistance (TDA) programme, SRPL works with a multi-sectoral approach in the fields of : (I) upgrading the provision of basic services, (II) improving the productive sources of livelihood, (III) increasing income security of households relying on artisanal fishing, (IV) fostering social cohesion. 1 - Field Crops / Horticulture - · The economic importance of the Onion Baftaim, Potatoes, Wheat and Sorghum crop and the other suitable types and varieties for the Yemeni environment. · Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). · Methods of cultivation, including correct agricultural methods and wrong practices. · Crop nutrition, including the symptoms of lack of elements and ways to avoid them through modern fertilization programs. · Methods of preparing manure. · Appropriate ways of dealing with fertilizers. · Recommendations and advice to the farmers based on their crop. 2 Plant Protection · Common diseases and pests that affect the crop and their causes, as well as methods of prevention and treatment of diseases. · The agricultural cycle and its importance. · Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. · The importance of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). · Appropriate ways of dealing with pesticides and fertilizers. · Preparing crop protection program. · Explain the symptoms of the fungal, bacterial and viral diseases to help the farmers to diagnose the pests and diseases. · Recommendations and advice to the farmers based on their crop. 3 Animal Production - · Animal care, common diseases, and their treatments. · Animal feed and how to prepare fodder cubes. · Ability to identify good and healthy beehives. · Designing of animal barns. · Explain the appropriate ways of beekeeping. · Animal vaccination. · Animal husbandry. 4 - Agricultural Economics and Marketing · Agricultural marketing skills for the crop. · Correct methods & practices during and after crop harvesting. · Supply and demand of the crop. · Crops value chain. 5 - Water, Land & Environment - Irrigation Networks - · Designing irrigation networks and the management of the planted crops. · Installation of irrigation network. · The importance of using irrigation networks and their economic impact. · Methods and technics for the maintenance of irrigation network. · Explain the appropriate distance between the plants. · Explain the types of soil in the Yemeni lands. · Recommend and advice farmers about the right doses of fertilizers. 6 - Medicine Veterinary - · Animal health. · Good practices in animal husbandry. · Common diseases in the Yemeni environment and their treatments. · Vaccination campaigns. · Preparing programs for vaccination campaigns. Component 2 aims at improving the productive sources of livelihood of vulnerable, rural households. The results hypothesis suggests that employment promotion and the revival of agricultural production will enlarge the self-help potential of vulnerable population groups and enable them to cope better with the impacts of the ongoing crisis. Promoting employment among vulnerable population groups and remobilising productive activities by farming households will restore their sources of livelihood for food security and income and promote local resources and economic activities. Cash for work(+)-activities for particularly vulnerable population groups and farming households for the short-term generation of income, improved access to rehabilitated productive infrastructure and upskilling vulnerable population groups for improved employability and agricultural production will make contributions to this.
